Senior Packaging [in Electronics/Mechanical industry]

Job Purpose

The Packaging Expert is responsible for designing, developing, validating, and optimizing packaging solutions for automotive suspension components. This role focuses on ensuring products are protected throughout transportation while optimizing packaging cost, efficiency, sustainability, and customer requirements. The position works closely with internal departments and packaging suppliers to develop packaging materials including cartons, corrugated boxes, foam inserts, plastic trays, and other protective packaging.

Key Responsibilities

Packaging Design & Development

• Design and develop packaging solutions for automotive components, including cartons, corrugated boxes, foam inserts, plastic trays, dividers, labels, and returnable packaging.

• Evaluate product dimensions, weight, fragility, transportation methods, and customer requirements to determine the optimal packaging design.

• Develop 2D/3D packaging drawings, packaging specifications, and work instructions.

• Conduct packaging validation and transportation testing to ensure product protection throughout the logistics process.

• Continuously improve packaging performance while reducing packaging costs.

Supplier Management

• Work closely with packaging suppliers to develop new packaging concepts and materials.

• Source and evaluate new packaging vendors based on quality, cost, delivery, and technical capability.

• Coordinate packaging trials, prototype development, and production implementation.

• Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Purchasing, Logistics, and Sales teams during new product development (NPI).

• Support customer packaging requirements and resolve packaging-related issues.

• Coordinate with global teams regarding packaging standards and best practices.

Packaging Optimization

• Optimize packaging utilization, pallet configuration, container loading efficiency, and warehouse storage.

• Improve packaging sustainability by reducing waste and promoting recyclable materials.

• Lead packaging cost reduction projects through material optimization and design improvements.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure packaging complies with customer specifications, international shipping standards, and internal quality requirements.

• Support customer audits and packaging validation activities.

• Maintain packaging documentation, specifications, BOMs, and revision control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,

Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related disciplines.

• Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging design, packaging

engineering, or packaging development within manufacturing

industries.

• Experience in automotive, plastics, injection molding, industrial

manufacturing, or consumer products is preferred.

• Experience working directly with packaging suppliers and corrugated

carton manufacturers is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of:

o Corrugated cartons

o Foam packaging (EPE, EVA, PE Foam, PU Foam)

o Plastic trays and returnable packaging

o Cushioning and protective packaging design

o Packaging testing and validation

o Packaging cost analysis

• Familiar with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD, or

similar design tools.

• Good understanding of logistics, palletization, container optimization,

and export packaging.

• Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and

sustainability initiatives.
