As a Mechanical Engineer (Product Development), you will be responsible for collaborating directly with our EU/US/Canada/Australia stakeholders to research and develop Simpson Strong-Tie products. What You'll Do

1. Support Product Research & Development (R&D) for Various Markets

   Design and develop mechanical product concepts and prototypes to support new product development for the concrete anchor, structural connectors, fasteners, test devices and safety system markets, tailored to European standards (such as ETA/EAD and Eurocodes) or US standards (ASME, ASTM, AWS...). This includes modeling ideas, feasibility studies, preliminary engineering calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), testing coordination, design iteration, and continuous improvement throughout the R&D lifecycle in close collaboration with our European and global teams.

2. Material & Manufacturing Expertise

   Apply deep knowledge of metallurgy, heat-treatment and surface-treatment processes (e.g. quenching, tempering, annealing, case hardening, nitriding, galvanizing/coating, etc.) to optimize the design. Select and justify steel grades, and critically interpret material test reports. Apply solid Design for Manufacturing (DFM) knowledge across a broad range of processes, milling, turning and more - to identify cost drivers, propose value-engineering solutions, and balance technical performance against production cost. Familiarity with thread rolling for anchors and fasteners, and progressive-die stamping for sheet-metal connectors, is a strong plus.

3. Product Calculation

   Provide core engineering support for new and existing products, including preliminary and advanced product structural calculations, competitor product benchmarking comparisons, and the creation of standardized calculation templates.

4. Testing & Analysis

   Coordinate and support rigorous laboratory product testing activities, including test planning, establishing the DoE, experimental test data analysis, and technical test reports for product validation. Perform engineering analysis to support product mechanical performance, load capacity, durability, and reliability under various real-world failure modes.

5. Technical leadership & mentoring

   Act as a technical reference point for the team, reviewing designs and calculations, sharing know-how, and mentoring fresher engineers. Represent the engineering perspective directly to international stakeholders and help shape best practices, tools, and workflows.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (At least 2 years’ proven working experience in mechanical design, material proposal and approval)
• Experience or coursework in CAD modeling (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar software preferred).
• Well-organized, diligent, and responsible with an aptitude in problem-solving.
• Crystal clear language in English-speaking skills. English proficiency equivalent to Level B2 of the CEFR or above (TOEIC 700, or IELTS 6.0). Knowing German and French is a plus.
• Familiarity with programing (Python, Illogic, VBA, C / C++...) or CAD Automation is a plus
• Having passion in general engineering, structural designs or research fields is an advantage.
• Creative and innovative mindset, with a willingness to explore new ideas to improve products, testing methods, or engineering tools.
