(HN) Lead Front-End Engineer

About the role

One Nexus Cloud is an AI-native public cloud platform. Developers reach it through three things: the web console, the command-line tool (CLI), and the language SDKs. Together, these make up our entire front-end and we're looking for a Lead Front-end Engineer to own them.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a pure management one. You'll design the architecture for the whole front-end codebase, set the standards the rest of the team builds against, and write the hardest parts yourself.

What you'll do

• Set the technical direction for the front-end. Decide how the repo is structured, how the build works, and how the console, CLI, and SDKs share code — so the codebase stays clean as the team and product grow.

• Build the web console. A data-heavy self-service portal for provisioning resources, managing GPU quotas, tracking billing and usage, controlling access (IAM), and viewing live system health.

• Build the CLI. A fast, single-binary command-line tool that works across platforms and that power users and CI/CD pipelines rely on.

• Build the SDKs. Clean client libraries in several languages, generated from our API specs so they always stay in sync with the platform.

• Own the shared foundation. The component library, code generation, linting, testing, and CI that every other front-end engineer builds on.

• Raise the bar. Lead code reviews, set testing and performance standards, and mentor the front-end engineers on the team.

Must haves

• Strong React and TypeScript, with real experience architecting large front-end codebases — not just building features in them.

• A strong understanding of the backend. You think in terms of APIs, services, and data flow, not just the UI. You can read backend code, shape API contracts (OpenAPI / gRPC), and reason through auth (OIDC), pagination, and real-time data alongside the platform team.

• Hands-on Rust, for the CLI, WASM, or other performance-critical tooling.

• Command of the modern front-end toolchain: monorepo tools (Turborepo / Nx), Vite, data and state libraries (TanStack Query, Zustand), and testing (Vitest, Playwright).

• Experience shipping CLIs or SDKs as real products, including generating them from API specs (OpenAPI / Smithy).

• The judgment to make architecture trade-offs and the communication skills to bring the team along.

Nice to have

• Built cloud, developer-tools, or infrastructure products before (consoles, dashboards, developer portals).

• Design systems at scale, and accessibility.
