Chief Accountant / Head of Finance

Location: shoefabrik office in HCMC, Vietnam

Manager: Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) (overseas)

Leadership: 5-6 accounting staff

Scope: 2 legal entities (Shoefabrik Office and Shoefabrik Manufacturing)

Position Summary

The Chief Accountant / Head of Finance is the senior accounting leader in Vietnam, acting as the Registered Chief Accountant.

The role has full ownership of accounting, tax, compliance, and audit matters, while providing strong leadership and governance across both entities. The position works closely with an overseas CFO and requires fluent English communication. While primarily managerial, the role is hands-on for reporting, forecasting, and complex matters.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Statutory Compliance

• Act as Registered Chief Accountant for both entities in accordance with Vietnamese law

• Serve as the Head of Finance function in Vietnam, setting standards, policies, and controls

• Ensure full compliance with Vietnamese Accounting Standards (VAS), Law on Accounting and other relevant regulations

• Take ultimate responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all accounting records

• Establish and continuously improve internal controls and accounting governance

• Oversee and ensure timely monthly and annual financial closings and ensure timely and accurate submission of statutory reports to authorities

• Communicate and cooperate with commercial banks and State Bank of Vietnam (SBV)

• Align statutory accounting with management and group reporting requirements

• Act as final reviewer and sign-off authority for accounting outputs

Tax Leadership & Audit Management

• Hold full end-to-end responsibility for all tax matters, including VAT, Corporate Income Tax (CIT), Foreign Contractor Withholding Tax (FCWT)

• Lead tax planning, compliance, and risk management

• Manage and represent the company during statutory audits, tax audits and inspections

• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and consultants

• Support transfer pricing compliance and documentation (experience a plus)

Management Reporting & CFO Support

• Prepare and review management reports for the overseas CFO

• Support forecasting, financial planning and financial analysis

• Remain hands-on for critical reporting, deadlines, and complex issues

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 5-6 accountants

• Allocate responsibilities between senior and junior staff including job rotation

• Review work quality and provide technical guidance

• Strengthen internal controls, processes, and team capability

Systems & Process Improvement

• Oversee accounting systems and data integrity

• Drive improvements in closing efficiency, reporting quality, and controls; develop workflow and system automation using latest technology

• Manage accounting for two legal entities, a services legal entity and a small manufacturing legal entity

• Develop robust accounting practices for the newly established manufacturing entity with focus on production costing, goods flow, and inventory tracking

• Find process improvements and drive process automation by using new technology such as artificial intelligence

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• Vietnamese Chief Accountant Certificate (Ministry of Finance)

• Eligible to be registered as Chief Accountant under Vietnamese law

Experience

• Minimum 7 years of experience as a Chief Accountant in Vietnam

• Strong experience in foreign-invested companies in light manufacturing industry

• Extensive exposure to tax compliance, audits, and inspections, with exposure to transfer pricing a plus

• Proven experience leading accounting teams

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of VAS and Vietnamese tax regulations

• Leadership mindset with hands-on execution capability

• High integrity, accountability, and attention to detail

• Fluent English (spoken and written)

• Experience in Odoo ERP system a plus
