Speech and Debate Club Teacher

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Design the curriculum and lesson plans in English to teach public speaking skills to students in Grades 2–5, and debate skills to students in Grades 6–11.

- Responsible for the academic cores of school-wide Speech and Debate tournaments, helping students understand and master the principles of public speaking and debate.

- Develop and nurture talented students to participate in national and international Speech and Debate competitions.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Professional activities:

- Design and adaptively improve instructional content: curriculum frameworks and lesson plans for the Speech and Debate club.

- Track student learning progress; assess learning quality and adjust curriculum and lesson plans based on student progress, competition schedules, and program goals.

- Research, assign, and edit written or spoken materials appropriate to students’ proficiency level.

- Recommend talented students for participation in competitive training teams and guide them in competitions.

- Participate in professional training organized by the center and the school. Engage in discussions, share teaching experiences, and support the in-depth skill development of students.

2. Teaching:

- Deliver instruction for the Speech and Debate Club across assigned grade levels, ensuring teaching quality and alignment with the Club’s development direction.

- Organize classes using experiential learning approaches; attend to students’ mental well-being and enthusiasm for learning.

- Collaborate with part-time teachers, teaching assistants, and Club lead to organize learning projects, events, and talent development competitions for students.

- Participate in departmental professional meetings, class observations, and peer learning sessions to exchange experience and development professionally.

3. Administration Duties:

- Attend weekly meetings with the Club lead.

- Research reference materials to build engaging, trend-aligned instructional programs that fit the Club’s overall vision.

- Submit proposals for teaching materials and supplies, including teaching equipment, stationary, and raw materials.

- Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, student supervisors to reinforce student discipline and character development.

- Coordinate with relevant departments to successfully complete school-wide activities.

- Strictly comply with school regulations regarding working hours, dress code, and attendance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree in English, Linguistics, Communications, Media, Law, or a related field; a teaching certification is an advantage.

- English proficiency: excellent (written and spoken), the subject is taught entirely in English.

- Experience in teaching or coaching Speech and/or Debate, or equivalent experience in public speaking, performance, or competitive communication formats.

- Effective communication skills: with students, parents, and colleagues.

- Experience working with children and/or adolescents.

- Familiar with international environments.
