Mattress Technical Product Manager

Key responsibilities

• Mattress product development and commercialization

• Lead mattress product development from customer requirements and initial concepts through prototype, validation, pilot production, and mass production.

• Translate U.S. market and customer requirements into practical product constructions, technical specifications, and manufacturing solutions.

• Develop mattress products that balance comfort, durability, quality, cost, manufacturability, and regulatory compliance.

• Coordinate product launches across Engineering, Product Design, Sales, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Compliance teams.

• Support product roadmap development and identify opportunities for product and material innovation.

• U.S. regulatory compliance and fire-retardant systems

• Provide technical leadership for U.S. mattress regulatory and compliance requirements.

• Develop and maintain mattress constructions that meet applicable requirements, including:

• 16 CFR Part 1632

• 16 CFR Part 1633

• Flammability requirements

• Labeling and traceability requirements

• Customer-specific compliance standards

• Work with the U.S. Compliance team, suppliers, factories, and laboratories to coordinate product testing, certification, documentation, and approvals.

• Investigate test failures and implement effective construction or material improvements.

• Materials and supplier development

• Evaluate and qualify mattress materials, including foam, fabric, FR barriers, adhesives, spring systems, covers, and other components.

• Partner with Sourcing to identify and develop technically capable suppliers and manufacturing partners.

• Establish material specifications, testing requirements, and qualification standards.

• Drive material innovation, cost optimization, and supplier performance improvement while maintaining product quality and compliance.

• Manufacturing and process development

• Partner with Asia Product Engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure products can be efficiently produced across multiple factories.

• Support process development, pilot production, process validation, and manufacturing readiness.

• Troubleshoot product, material, construction, and manufacturing issues.

• Improve first-pass yield, production efficiency, product consistency, and overall manufacturing performance.

• Technical leadership and lifecycle management

• Serve as the primary technical interface among:

• U.S. Sales and Product Design

• Product Engineering

• Asia Finished Goods Sourcing

• Manufacturing vendors

• Asia Product Engineering

• Quality Assurance

• U.S. Compliance and Regulatory teams

• Material suppliers

• Maintain product specifications, bills of materials, construction documents, compliance records, engineering changes, and traceability documentation.

• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for product quality or field performance issues.

• Monitor product performance after launch and drive continuous improvement.

Required experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Textile Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.

• At least 5–8 years of relevant experience in mattress development, product engineering, manufacturing, materials, R&D, or a closely related industry.

• Strong knowledge of mattress construction, materials, production processes, and product testing.

• Experience developing products from concept through commercialization and mass production.

• Experience working with manufacturing suppliers, technical teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.

• Strong analytical thinking, technical problem-solving, and project management capability.

• Ability to independently lead technical discussions and influence stakeholders without direct authority.

• Strong English communication skills for working with teams in Asia and the United States.

• Willingness to travel approximately 30–50%.

Strongly preferred

• Direct experience with U.S. mattress regulations, particularly 16 CFR Parts 1632 and 1633.

• Hands-on experience with fire-retardant mattress constructions, FR barriers, flammability testing, and regulatory documentation.

• Experience developing or qualifying foam, fabric, spring systems, adhesives, covers, or other mattress components.

• Experience working with third-party laboratories, certification bodies, or U.S. customers.

• Knowledge of testing and certification standards such as ASTM, UL, OEKO-TEX, or CertiPUR-US.

• Experience with supplier development, product validation, engineering change management, or product lifecycle management.
