ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Product Development & Manufacturing Lead to join our Ho Chi Minh City office.

This is a technical and commercially focused role, working closely with our Sales and Design teams to evaluate product concepts, assess manufacturing feasibility, identify suitable production methods and suppliers, and support product development from initial RFQ through sampling and production handover.

The successful candidate will bring practical manufacturing knowledge, strong problem-solving abilities and experience working directly with factories on customised OEM/ODM products.

You will play an important role in ensuring that products proposed to clients are technically feasible, commercially viable and ready for successful manufacturing.

This is a senior individual-contributor position, with strong potential to evolve into a people-management role based on performance and candidate fit. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving product challenges, working directly with factories and turning creative concepts into real products.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Product Development & Technical Feasibility

• Review product concepts, client briefs, design drawings and specifications to assess manufacturing feasibility.
• Evaluate appropriate materials, construction methods, finishes, dimensions and manufacturing processes.
• Identify potential technical challenges, quality concerns, tooling requirements and production limitations at an early stage.
• Recommend practical manufacturing solutions and alternative materials or processes to improve product quality, cost and manufacturability.
• Work with factories to clarify technical specifications, prototype requirements and production capabilities.
• Support the development of new and customised products, including multi-component products where appropriate.
• Identify when specialist engineering, testing or regulatory compliance expertise is required and escalate accordingly.

2. Sales & RFQ Technical Support

• Work directly with the Vietnam Sales team to evaluate incoming RFQs and identify technical requirements.
• Review client briefs for completeness and clarify missing specifications before sourcing or quotation.
• Advise Sales on feasible manufacturing methods, materials, MOQs, lead times and estimated production costs.
• Recommend alternative product solutions where initial concepts are impractical or exceed client budgets.
• Provide clear technical and sourcing information to support accurate and competitive quotations.
• Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and product improvements that support commercial margins.
• Communicate technical risks and limitations clearly to Sales before commitments are made to clients.

3. Sourcing & Supplier Development

• Identify, evaluate and engage suitable manufacturing partners in Vietnam and China.
• Source factories with appropriate technical capabilities, quality standards and production capacity.
• Obtain and compare supplier quotations, including materials, tooling, sampling, MOQs and lead times.
• Negotiate with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing while maintaining quality and delivery requirements.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities and recommend suitable manufacturing partners for specific projects.
• Build and maintain a reliable supplier network, with particular emphasis on expanding ODM's Vietnam manufacturing capabilities.
• Maintain accurate supplier information and sourcing records.

4. Sampling & Product Validation

• Coordinate product sampling and prototype development with suppliers.
• Review samples against approved designs, specifications, functionality and quality expectations.
• Identify defects, construction issues, material inconsistencies and other manufacturing concerns.
• Work with factories and Design to recommend corrective actions and improvements.
• Manage sampling feedback, revisions and technical clarifications.
• Confirm that product specifications and critical requirements are documented before production handover.
• Escalate unresolved technical risks before products proceed to production.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with the Design team to translate creative concepts and visualisations into practical manufacturing solutions.
• Provide early technical feedback during product development to minimise unnecessary revisions and sampling costs.
• Support Sales with product knowledge, sourcing alternatives and manufacturing recommendations.
• Collaborate with the China Production team on factory capabilities, technical specifications and product-development requirements.
• Ensure a clear and complete technical handover for projects moving into production.
• Participate in relevant RFQ, product development and production review meetings.
• Communicate effectively across teams in Vietnam and China to resolve technical and sourcing challenges.

6. Project Management & Reporting

• Maintain accurate and timely project information in ODM's project management system, Podio.
• Track assigned sourcing activities, sampling milestones, supplier responses and technical issues.
• Identify and escalate delays, incomplete specifications and manufacturing risks.
• Maintain clear documentation of product specifications, quotations, sampling revisions and supplier communications.
• Provide regular progress updates to Sales and relevant stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement of sourcing, technical validation and product-development workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

• Approximately 4–8 years of relevant experience in OEM/ODM product development, technical merchandising, product sourcing or manufacturing-related roles. Candidates with equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
• Strong written and spoken English, with the confidence to communicate technical information across international teams.
• Hands-on experience developing customised consumer products, promotional merchandise, packaging, accessories or related manufactured goods.
• Good practical understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, construction methods, tooling and sampling.
• Demonstrated ability to assess product feasibility and identify potential manufacturing challenges.
• Experience working directly with factories on product development, sourcing and sampling.
• Strong costing, supplier comparison and negotiation skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities with a practical, solution-oriented approach.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with digital project-management tools, spreadsheets and technical documentation, with the ability to learn Podio quickly.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.

Preferred

• Experience working across multiple product categories and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, product specifications and design files.
• Familiarity with product testing, quality assurance and basic compliance requirements.
• Experience supporting Sales or commercial teams with technical product-development advice.
• Existing supplier networks in Vietnam or China.
• Experience collaborating with industrial designers, engineers or product-development teams.
• Relevant degree or diploma in Product Design, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
