As a Software Developer, you will take ownership of features across the stack — from API and data model through to the UI that consumes them — across Simpson Strong-Tie's enterprise platforms. We don't split our team into backend and frontend silos; everyone here is a software developer who can move across the stack. This is a mid-level role, so we're not expecting you to already be equally strong everywhere: backend is where we need your core strength, and we'll support you in growing your frontend range over time. Specializing deeper into backend or frontend later is a welcome career choice, not a requirement from day one. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Full-Stack Feature Ownership

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and services using Java/Spring Boot and/or .NET/ASP.
  NET Core.
• Contribute to the UI features that consume those APIs, using React/Next.js and TypeScript.
• Write clean, testable, well-structured code following SOLID principles and established architectural patterns (controller/service/repository).
• Design and optimize data models across relational (Azure SQL/MSSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (Cosmos DB) databases, with attention to indexing and query performance.
• Integrate services with internal and third-party APIs, message queues, and background/async processing.
• Write unit and integration tests for the code you ship.
• Participate in code reviews, troubleshoot production issues, and contribute to system reliability and performance improvements across the stack.

AI-Augmented Development

• Leverage AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) to accelerate development while maintaining code quality.
• Use AI tools effectively for code review, refactoring, debugging, and documentation across the stack.
• Critically evaluate AI output, knowing when to trust, verify, or override.

Collaboration & Quality

• Work closely with tech leads, QA, and product owners within our Scrum framework with daily standups, sprint planning, and retros.
• Own your tickets end-to-end, including breaking work into and managing subtasks, you're expected to drive a ticket, not just take direction on it.
• Embrace collective code ownership with code review, improve, and take responsibility for shared implementation.
• Raise blockers, risks, and improvement ideas proactively, rather than waiting to be asked.
• Look for opportunities to improve code quality, team processes, and your own skills as part of your normal workflow, not as a separate initiative.
• Write and maintain clear technical documentation for APIs, services, and data models.
• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery commitments as part of a cross-functional team.

Your Skills and Experience

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The list below reflects what's required to be considered and what strengthens an application.

Must-Have

• 2-4 years of professional software development experience, with solid backend fundamentals as the core of your background.
• Strong proficiency in Java/Spring Boot (Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA) and/or C#/.NET (ASP.
  NET Core, EF Core).
• Working knowledge of TypeScript and React/Next.js and comfortable contributing to UI features alongside your backend work; deep independence here is something you can grow into.
• Solid understanding of relational database design (MySQL or MSSQL/Azure SQL) with schema design, indexing, query optimization.
• Basic knowledge of unit testing (JUnit, xUnit/NUnit, or Jest).
• Understanding of RESTful API design principles and experience integrating with third-party or internal APIs.
• Experience working in a Scrum team includes daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and estimation.
• Comfortable owning tickets and features across the stack rather than working strictly within one layer.
• Business-level English communication skills (both verbal and written)

Nice-to-Have

• Familiarity with both Java/Spring Boot and .NET, rather than one of the two.
• If you already lean toward specializing deeper in backend or frontend, that's welcome.
• Exposure to Cosmos DB or other NoSQL stores.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows, code review practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Basic exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred) including App Services, Function Apps, or containerized deployments (AKS/Docker).
• Experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) in daily work.
• Familiarity with web security principles and common vulnerabilities (XSS, CSRF, SQL Injection).
