ETG COFFEE SUSTAINABILITY

ETG Coffee Sustainability teams are driving the positive social and environmental transition of ETG operations. Within the coffee department there are dedicated sustainability teams, supporting the commercial teams exporting and trading green coffee beans headquartered in the Netherlands and with sourcing operations in Africa, Asia and Latin America covering over a hundred thousand farmers. Our farmer level sustainability projects include interventions on agroforestry, carbon farming, living income, gender empowerment, and youth inclusion. We are also strengthening our direct sourcing network and supply chain transparency across origins through establishing relationships with our sourcing farmer groups and supporting them with digital farmer registration, geo-mapping and providing farmers access to support training and services.

JOB PURPOSE

The ETG Coffee Sustainability team is responding to the need for data analysis and verification and due diligence in response to our project reporting and emerging regulatory changes (e.g. EUDR, CSDDD).

The role fits in the impact oriented and energetic sustainability team of 15+ experts across 6 countries, that have already onboarded farmers digitally in dedicated surveying and assessment tools. The Junior Geospatial Data Analyst is responsible for cleaning, standardizing, validating, and maintaining farmer geospatial and traceability datasets, including famer information, coffee plot polygons, waypoints, and shipment-related information. The role supports regulatory compliance, supply chain transparency, and sustainability reporting through high-quality data management and analysis.

With a fast-changing context of regulatory requirement and sourcing developments, this role offers a dynamic environment for strategizing within an interdisciplinary team and bringing tangible results in inclusion and impact for smallholder farmers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Data Cleaning & Validation

• Clean, standardize, and validate datasets from multiple origins and systems.
• Perform quality checks on geospatial and traceability datasets.
• Investigate data quality issues and identify potential root causes.
• Review farmer registration records and supporting documentation.
• Support recurring data quality monitoring and improvement activities.
• Maintain documentation of common issues, resolutions, and best practices.

Data Management

• Import, update, and maintain data in MergData, including new records and corrections to existing datasets.
• Conduct periodical review of plot polygons, waypoints, and associated attributes of direct sourcing origins to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Resolve and document basic geometry, topology, and attribute-related issues.
• Maintain and update master farmer and geo datasets.
• Conduct ad hoc data analysis as requested by clients and internal stakeholders.

Traceability & Compliance Data

• Conduct desk-based geospatial assessments on new shipment-related datasets in line with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Support the implementation of traceability systems in direct sourcing origins.
• Support preparation of geolocation and traceability files for regulatory compliance and client reporting.
• Validate data used for sustainability regulation, certification and customer reporting.
• Assist with recurring compliance-related data requests from customers, authorities, certification bodies, and internal stakeholders.

Reporting & Dashboards

• Support the development, maintenance, and refresh of dashboards and reporting tools.
• Track data quality and data performance metrics.
• Assist in identifying trends, anomalies, and data quality gaps.
• Prepare recurring reports and supporting datasets for internal and external reporting requirements.

System & Team Support

• Support testing and governance of surveys and data collection tools.
• Help investigate issues raised by origin teams and support corrective actions.
• Maintain documentation and data management procedures.
• Contribute ideas for improving workflows and reducing manual work.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Required

• 1–2 years of experience working with data cleaning, harmonization, or data analysis, especially with larger datasets.

• Strong proficiency in Excel (PivotTable, Power Query).

• Hands‑on experience with geospatial datasets and/or Geo Information System (GIS) applications, such as ArcGIS and QGIS.

• Proficiency with PowerPoint and Word.

• Fluent English communication skills (B2+ level or equivalent), both written and spoken.

Nice To Have

• Basic knowledge of data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau).

• Knowledge or working experience with programming language, such as Python, and querying language (SQL)

• Experience working with agricultural, traceability, sustainability, or supply chain datasets.

• Exposure to sustainability, agriculture or certification programs.
