About This Role

We are looking for Fresher Steel Designers who are eager to begin and develop their careers in structural steel design and detailing.

This is an entry-level position and no prior professional experience is required. Full training and guidance will be provided by experienced team members. Candidates with any previous exposure to steel structures through university projects, internships, coursework, or practical experience will be considered an advantage.

In this role, you will learn to interpret engineering and architectural drawings, develop 3D structural steel models, prepare technical drawings, and support steel detailing activities for construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of senior team members, you will:

- Learn to interpret engineering drawings, architectural drawings, specifications, and project documentation.

- Assist in preparing and developing 3D models for structural steel components.

- Assist in preparing 2D drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and related project documentation.

- Update models and drawings based on design changes and instructions from senior team members.

- Assist in preparing material lists, schedules, and basic fabrication information from project models.

- Support the review of drawings and project information to ensure accuracy and consistency.

- Coordinate with engineers, designers, detailers, and other team members when clarification is required.

- Maintain proper drawing revisions, documentation, and project records.

- Follow NexGenus drafting standards, procedures, and quality requirements.

- Develop an understanding of steel fabrication, construction, and installation processes.

- Learn and apply relevant Australian construction standards and project requirements.

- Complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines.

- Continuously develop technical knowledge and learn new design and detailing software.

Job Requirements

- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field; or Certificate IV in Drafting (Structural Design).

- No prior professional experience required — this is a graduate / entry-level position and full training will be provided.

- Strong technical understanding of steel structures gained through academic study, coursework, university projects, or practical exposure.

- Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.

- Ability to read and understand technical and engineering documentation.

- Competent in AutoCAD, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel.

- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

- Good communication and teamwork skills.

- Willingness to learn new software, systems, and technical processes.
