The Technical Data Engineer is responsible for collecting, verifying, organizing, and maintaining complete and accurate technical information for all furniture products developed by the Product Development (PD) team. 

The primary objective is to ensure that every approved product sample has a complete, accurate, and production-ready Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and supporting technical documentation. 

The position requires active involvement in sample evaluations and Pre-Production Sample (PPS) reviews to verify construction details, identify technical changes, and ensure all approved modifications are accurately reflected in the technical documentation before mass production. 

During the initial implementation of the revised PD and Technical Data process, the Technical Data Engineer will also support the PD team in preparing and updating technical drawings as required. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Data Collection and Documentation (Primary Responsibility)

• Collect all technical information from developed and approved furniture samples.

• Coordinate with PD engineers, technicians, workshops, and factories to obtain accurate construction and material information.

• Physically verify product dimensions, construction methods, components, and other critical specifications against the actual samples.

• Ensure all required technical information is properly recorded, including:

• Overall and component dimensions, including tolerances

• Frame construction, joinery, and assembly methods

• Wood species, panels, veneers, and finishing specifications

• Foam density, thickness, profiles, and construction

• Upholstery materials, cutting patterns, sewing details, and workmanship requirements

• Hardware, mechanisms, fittings, and accessories

• Bill of Materials (BOM) and material consumption

• Packaging specifications and labeling requirements

• Approved sample photographs and technical references

• Identify missing or inconsistent information and coordinate with the responsible departments for clarification.

• Ensure technical data accurately represents the approved physical sample.

2. Technical Data Sheet and Tech Pack Preparation (Primary Responsibility)

• Prepare and maintain complete Technical Data Sheets (TDS) for all new product developments.

• Consolidate technical drawings, material specifications, construction details, and BOM information into standardized product tech packs.

• Verify the completeness and accuracy of technical documentation before submission for review.

• Coordinate with relevant departments to confirm technical specifications and resolve discrepancies.

• Maintain consistent documentation formats and product information across all developments.

• Ensure all approved changes are incorporated into the latest TDS and supporting documents.

• Submit completed technical documentation for review and approval before production release.

3. PPS Review and Technical Documentation Updates (Mandatory Responsibility)

• Attend all assigned Pre-Production Sample (PPS) reviews with the PD, Technical, QA, and Production teams.

• Prepare and review the latest TDS and technical drawings before the PPS meeting.

• Verify the PPS against the approved development sample, technical drawings, and specifications.

• Record all technical comments, construction modifications, material changes, and agreed corrective actions during the PPS review.

• Coordinate with the responsible engineers and factories to clarify technical requirements.

• Update the TDS, drawings, BOM, and related documents based on approved PPS changes.

• Follow up on outstanding technical issues and ensure that all required updates are completed.

• Confirm that the latest approved technical information is available before production release.

• Maintain a record of PPS revisions, approval status, and outstanding technical actions.

Important: Attendance at PPS reviews and updating technical documentation following approved changes are mandatory responsibilities of this position. Production release remains subject to the company's designated approval authority.

4. Technical Drawings and PD Support (Secondary Responsibility)

• Support the PD team in preparing and revising 2D furniture drawings using AutoCAD or equivalent software.

• Prepare plans, elevations, sections, construction details, and assembly drawings when required.

• Assist in updating drawings following sample reviews and engineering changes.

• Verify drawing dimensions and construction details against physical samples.

• Coordinate with PD engineers to ensure drawings reflect approved product specifications.

• Provide additional drawing support during the implementation and finalization of the new PD process flow.

As the Technical Data process becomes fully established, the position will increasingly focus on technical documentation, data accuracy, and PPS coordination.

5. Technical Data Management and Document Control

• Maintain accurate and updated product technical records.

• Ensure consistency of item codes, factory codes, material codes, product descriptions, and drawing references.

• Upload and maintain approved technical information in NetSuite and other designated company systems.

• Maintain proper document revision history, approval status, and effective dates.

• Ensure outdated drawings and technical specifications are clearly identified and prevented from being used in production.

• Maintain organized digital records for easy retrieval by PD, QA, Production, and other relevant departments.

• Support technical-data cleanup, standardization, and migration activities.

6. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with PD engineers and technicians to collect and verify product information.

• Coordinate with workshops and factories to clarify construction methods and manufacturing requirements.

• Support QA in identifying critical dimensions, workmanship standards, and inspection requirements.

• Communicate technical discrepancies and unresolved issues to the Technical Product Manager.

• Ensure that technical information is properly transferred from Product Development to Production.

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Wood

Technology, or a related field.

• Minimum three years of experience in furniture technical development, technical documentation, CAD drafting, or product engineering.

• Strong understanding of furniture construction, materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes.

• Ability to inspect physical furniture samples and accurately record technical specifications.

• Experience preparing Technical Data Sheets, tech packs, and Bills of Materials.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent 2D drafting software.

• Basic 3D modeling knowledge is an advantage.

• Good Microsoft Excel skills and experience managing technical data.

• Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite knowledge is preferred.

• Willingness to work directly with PD workshops and factories and attend PPS reviews.
