About the role

Are you a Tekla Structures detailer with 1–3 years of experience looking for the next step in your career?

At AED, you will have the opportunity to work on Australian structural steel projects, developing your technical skills beyond modelling and drawing production. You will learn how Australian steel projects are designed, detailed, fabricated and erected — and, importantly, see how the work you produce is actually used on site.

This role is designed for someone who already has a solid foundation in Tekla and wants to grow into a well-rounded structural steel detailer, with a longer-term pathway toward becoming a Senior Detailer or Team Leader.

You will be supported through structured training, AED's Udemy Business learning paths, coaching and hands-on exposure to Australian clients, fabricators and construction sites.

We are looking for someone who is curious, careful, willing to learn and takes pride in getting things right. You don't need to know everything on day one — we will help you build the skills.

What you'll do

1. Tekla modelling & structural steel detailing

- Build accurate 3D structural steel models in Tekla Structures from engineering drawings, architectural drawings and client models.

- Produce structural steel shop drawings, including single-part and assembly drawings, erection drawings, layout drawings and set-out information.

- Prepare bills of materials and fabrication outputs such as CNC/NC and DSTV files where required.

- Learn and apply Australian structural steel standards and industry practices, including AS 4100, AS/NZS 5131, AS/NZS 1554 and AS/NZS 1252.

- Apply standard connection details and detailing practices consistently.

- When information is unclear or conflicting, ask questions and raise an RFI rather than making assumptions.

- Complete your own quality checks before submitting work for review.

- Work with senior detailers, coordinators and engineers to make sure each project is complete and ready for issue.

- Learn from checker/client comments and apply that learning to your next project.

2. Quality & continuous improvement

You won't just be expected to “draw what you're told”. We want you to understand why things are detailed the way they are.

You will:

- Follow AED's modelling, drawing and QA standards.

- Use project checklists and client-specific detailing requirements.

- Learn how different Australian clients, fabricators and projects have different preferences.

Participate in our self-check → peer-check → coordinator review process.

- Record and learn from errors rather than hiding them.

- Understand the root cause of rework and help improve the process.

- Keep model and drawing revisions organised and make sure you are always working from the latest information.

- Gradually take more ownership of project quality as your experience grows.

- Our philosophy is simple: quality starts with the person creating the model.

3. Learn from the Australian industry

- One of the things that makes this role different is that you won't be working in isolation.

- As you develop, you may have opportunities to:

- Communicate directly with Australian clients on technical and detailing questions.

- Join meetings with client detailers, engineers and coordinators.

- Visit fabrication workshops and construction sites in Australia.

- See how structural steel is actually fabricated, transported and erected.

- Understand what makes a drawing useful to a fabricator and site crew.

- Bring what you learn back to the Vietnam team.

Build your confidence communicating in clear, practical English with Australian clients.

You will gradually move from “producing drawings” to understanding the whole steel detailing process.

4. Grow with the team

We are building this role as a career pathway, not simply a production position.

- As your technical capability and confidence grow, you will have opportunities to:

- Take responsibility for larger and more complex projects.

- Support and mentor junior detailers.

- Help improve AED's Tekla standards, templates and checklists.

- Develop your communication and coordination skills.

- You are not expected to be a leader on day one.

Essential

- 1–3 years of experience using Tekla Structures.

- Experience with structural steel modelling/detailing.

- Able to read and understand structural drawings.

- Basic understanding of steel members, connections and fabrication drawings.

- Good attention to detail.

- Willingness to ask questions when something is unclear.

- Comfortable receiving feedback and improving from it.

- Basic English communication skills, with a willingness to improve.

You'll fit well here if you are someone who:

- Enjoys understanding how things work, not just following instructions.

- Takes ownership of your work.

- Notices when something doesn't look right.

- Is comfortable saying “I'm not sure — let me check.”

- Wants exposure to international projects and clients.

You don't need to have:

- Australian project experience already.

- Advanced English.

- Experience managing a team.

- Expert knowledge of every Australian standard.
