The Engineering team within the Strategy & Innovation Office is looking for an experienced Lead / Principal Backend Engineer (Java) to drive the design and evolution of mission-critical enterprise platforms supporting Vinamilk's digital transformation journey.

In this role, you will lead the architecture and development of large-scale backend systems that power core business domains across Commercial, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Enterprise Applications, B2B and B2C platforms. You will work closely with Product Managers, Architects, Data Engineers, and Engineering teams to ensure systems can scale reliably while balancing business priorities, technical constraints, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

System Architecture & Engineering Excellence

• Design and evolve backend architecture with a focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Lead technical solution design for complex business initiatives involving multiple systems, stakeholders, and integration points.
• Define engineering standards, architectural principles, and development best practices across teams.
• Drive the modernization of legacy applications and services while minimizing operational risks.
• Evaluate trade-offs between speed, quality, technical debt, and long-term sustainability.

Scalability, Stability & Performance

• Design highly available and fault-tolerant services that support mission-critical business operations.
• Identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks across application, database, messaging, and infrastructure layers.
• Improve system observability through monitoring, alerting, logging, tracing, and operational analytics.
• Lead root cause analysis and resolution of critical production incidents.
• Establish performance benchmarks, reliability metrics, and service level objectives (SLOs).

Platform Optimization

• Drive cloud and infrastructure optimization initiatives to improve resource utilization and operational efficiency.
• Review application architecture, service dependencies, and infrastructure consumption to reduce unnecessary operational costs.
• Optimize database performance, caching strategies, data pipelines, and integration flows.
• Balance system scalability requirements with cost-effective engineering solutions.

Technical Leadership

• Serve as a technical leader and trusted advisor for engineering teams.
• Mentor and coach engineers through architecture reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, and technical discussions.
• Influence technology decisions, roadmap planning, and engineering investment priorities.
• Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Data, Architecture, Security, and Infrastructure teams.

Delivery & Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Managers and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead technical implementation planning and execution across multiple initiatives.
• Manage technical risks, dependencies, and architectural considerations throughout the delivery lifecycle.
• Ensure high-quality software through testing, automation, CI/CD practices, and engineering governance.

Your Skills and Experience

Must Have

• Bachelor in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with at least 2-3 years in Lead, Principal, or Senior-level technical ownership.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and modern backend development practices.
• Proven experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of Microservices Architecture, Event-Driven Architecture, Distributed Caching, and Asynchronous Processing.
• Deep understanding of system design, scalability, resiliency, and performance optimization.
• Strong experience with RESTful APIs, messaging platforms, and system integration patterns.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar event streaming technologies.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including performance tuning and optimization.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience working in environments with significant legacy systems and complex dependencies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, K8s, Terraform 
• Experience building enterprise platforms supporting Supply Chain, Manufacturing, ERP, CRM, DMS, Commerce or Retail ecosystems.
• Experience implementing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and operational excellence programs.
• Knowledge of system observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Elasticsearch.
• Experience leading modernization or migration programs from monolithic to distributed architectures.
• Knowledge of FinOps, infrastructure cost optimization, and cloud governance practices.
• Experience working within FMCG, Retail, Manufacturing, Logistics, or large enterprise environments.
